Scenic Walking Views In Sydney

There are a few spots around Sydney that get all the credit for views as walking tracks. When in fact the real best places hardly get any mention whatsoever let me point out a few of these for you so you can see for yourself and take in the views and wonder of the harbour city.

From The Inner Harbour North

At Mc Mahons Point right at the end of Blues Point Road is a park with great views of the city. You can also walk around the Henry Lawson Ave to Sails Restaurant for some more views next to the wharf there.

Another great spot if Kirribilli Point, however its got a few building there and you’ll only get a chance to see them once a year around September. But its well worth the wait as Kirribilli House and Admiralty House are shown to the general public by the Australian Foundation. Apart from that I suggest you look at the Mary Booth lookout at just off Waruga Street and see the nice views especially of The Opera House and Circular Quay.

Another great spot along the way is Cremorne Point – you can walk along the whole of the point and its parklands. The place goes back some 130 years as far as its park status and the area has a nice walking track. Be sure to stop by at the Cremorne Wharf to have a coffee as you walk around the place and take in the views.

There is a nice walk around Clontarf after you go over The Spit Bridge. It’s a little bit difficult to get to, but well worth the effort and you’ll find some nice beaches on the walk making it ideal during summer time.

Over at Manly is the North Head, you’ll discover a walk called Lady Fairfax Walk and a café not too far from it with views of the city and great headland views of the harbour. Again, not many people know the place is even there, but I can assure you its worth taking time out to see it.

As always Dee Why – just look past where the golf course (isn’t it funny how golf courses get these spots?) is located and other northern places like Avalon and Palm Beach are worthy of your visit and the scenic walking tracks these places hold.

Walking The Inner Harbour South

The best place to start looking at the harbour on the south side could well be Elizabeth Bay. There’s a park there and nearby coffee shops plus a little walking area and green grass. If you walk up to Elizabeth Bay House you’ll also find a great place to have a picnic or read a book while taking in the views.

Not too far down the road is Rose Bay which has a lovely track following the water’s edge and dotted with some cafes along this walk. It will lead you to Vaucluse as you walk around the main road – New South Head Road which goes to a walking track called the Hermitage Walk going all the way to a park and Shark Bay.

If you go then to Watsons Bay, you’ll be at The South Head which holds many walking areas and beaches. One of the well known walking areas is from Bondi to Clovelly – but it’s so popular as to overshadow its relaxation value it due to so many other people walking it at the same time.

Other spots further down the road would be La Perouse and Little Bay. Covered by a huge golf course, this still makes for a scenic walk and an area of discovery about Sydney’s past. Just over the road is Cronulla which has a beach spanning a few kilometers out along Kurnell another place where Captain Cook dropped by when he went past Sydney.

Go On Your Walk Prepared

While walking some of these places I’d suggest that you bring yourself a small snack and something to drink. Because once you get there all you may wish to do is sit on a park bench and look at the views. Some places do in fact have cafes nearby. This makes it easy to fill in your afternoons on the weekend and still have time to do other things. It’s also ideal if you have good shoes, and let others know you’ve gone out for a walk and where you’re at. Keep your phone handy and where possible go with friends so you can enjoy it together.
