Walking Is Aerobic
Walking is often seen as a way to burn off fat, sadly its not, actually
walking is an aerobic exercise and is for cardiovascular health. If you walk
around 30 minutes a day you’ll be doing your body what it needs. Better
still if you do about and hour or two of walking. Your mind will be
stimulated, and will be able to sleep better.
Plan Your Walking
It’s easy these days to let a busy life get in the way of exercise and thus
many people leave out an essential activity. Driving cars and staying long
hours at work have eroded walking to being a past time for some when only a
hundred years or so before walking was the only way people got things done.
Make time a few times each week to do your walking and vary the locations to
keep it interesting.
Wear Good Shoes
The vast majority of people walking don’t have shoes that are suitable. When
the solution could be as little as buying a new set of walking shoes or a
few of them over time. Suburban walking can easily chew up your shoes and
walking out at bushland areas can be even harder on your shoes. If you like
walking by the sand and beach areas, you’ll need something that is water
wear okay for you, and able to handle walking over rocks etc. that’s why you
often need more than one set of shoes.
Drink Water
Carry sufficient water while you walk. Even during the cooler months of the
year its easy to forget we all perspire and breath out water vapors. Bring a
snack with you too. When you get to a place you can eat fruit or something
nourishing en route.
Take Breaks While You Walk
There is no prize for completing your walk in record time. That’s why park
benches have been invented. Take in the views, stop and look around you.
Bring a book and read it when you take a break. Grab a coffee and walk with
it to your halfway point and drink it as you read your favorite book. The
point being is that if you make your walk memorable and enjoyable you’ll
feel invigorated later and be more willing to handle whatever other tasks
you have to do at home or the office when you get back.
Study Your Maps – And Bring Your GPS
One thing a lot of casual walkers hardly do is look at maps and see where
things are. Maybe even bring a GPS to keep track of your location. This can
save time and worry especially when you find a road closure or traffic
alteration. It gives you more options about how to plan your time and what
to do next. By using maps you can try out different places and check out
land features or historical places in your city to learn about when you do
your walking.
What Types Of Walks Can You Do?
Variety is as they say the spice of life. That’s why some good ideas about
what walks can give you the best possible choice to make. Look at these
walks
- Scenic park walks
- Walking around art galleries
- Picnic walks
- Historical walks
- Beach side walks
- Walking on hills and mountains
- Cemetery or “ghost walks”
- Pub crawl walks
- Shopping walks
- Chocolate walks
- Paws walks
- River walks
Walking Is For Relaxation
If it’s not fun – then don’t do it. But on the contrary, a bit of exercise
will have some degree of discomfort. Walking is for yourself. But if you are
walking with a partner give both of yourselves a reward after the walk
together, such as a coffee or treat or a meal – something you can both enjoy
for doing the walk.
Walking Gets You Out In The Sunshine
We all need vitamin D, which can’t be produced without sunshine on your
body. This vitamin stops disease and helps you stay healthy. We have had so
much exhortation about shielding our skin from sunlight that we have
forgotten what our ancestors had grown up with and that’s regular exposure
to the sunlight. Walking helps you get some of this balance back and gives
you something that an indoors fitness center can’t deliver to you. The great
outdoors is good for your health.
Walking Is The Easiest – Start Walking Now
Of all the things you can do, walking is instant. After reading this, you
could literally get up and walk out the door and do so a pace you feel is
best just for you. Other forms of exercise – such as jogging, swimming,
running cycling, tennis, golf etc all may take either extra time, extra
people and effort and some have considerable extra financial investment to
get going. On the other hand, walking is one thing you can do all by
yourself and at the least, getting the right walking shoes might be a major
added investment.
